Vergelegen Wine Farm in Sommerset West is one of South Africa’s historical treasures and favorite Cape stay-overs for people such as Nelson Mandela, The Queen of England and many other of the worlds heads of state. Vegelen guest suite was in a serious need of a revamp and they asked design icon John Zwiegelaar to put it together for them.
Johns classic design sense and choice of objects for the new ‘old’ look transports one into a timeless era. The guest almost gets the sense that this is exactly what they would have expected the guest suite to look like. Johns choice of objects, paintings, wallpapers and wall hangings all have the spirit of the Dutch VoC days.

Robin Sprong Wallpapers created and installed the Ticking stripes that adorn the walls of the three guest bathrooms and the antique blue stripe in the main Bedroom.

An original painting of Jan van Riebeeck surrounded by original 17th century delft ware and a few modern touch. Thandi paint specialts created the paint effects similar to what you would expect in a Dutch town house. John worked with Kurt Pio who painted and put together many of the artworks including the birds and pressed fynbos displays.
